graduated with a Masters in Jazz Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2000 and has performed in a variety of musical ensembles - from small jazz groups to theatre orchestras to commercial bands for events and television.
He has performed with Australian singers and musicians including Tom Burlinson, Grace Knight, James Morrison, Carl Risely, Daryl Aberhart, Virna Sanzone, Lily Dior, Jeff Duff, Dan Barnett, Mike Nock, Judy Bailey, Phil Slater, James Muller, Sean Wayland, Matt McMahon and many other leading figures in Australian jazz. He has also performed with many international jazz artists including Bob Florence (US), Charles Tolliver (US), Bert Joris (Belgium), Jerry Lewis (US), Jim Pugh (US), Wayne Bergeron (US), Al Vizutti (US), John Rapson (US), Vince DeMartino (US).
Richard has appeared on over 25 released albums and is also a member of the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, widely regarded as Australia's premier big band.

Richard has worked on the productions of Billy Elliot, Highschool Musical, Chicago, Candyman and many other theatre productions playing instruments ranging from bass clarinet to piccolo, as well as all saxophones. Richard has worked with rock and pop bands and artists such as The Black Sorrows, Human Nature, Glenn Cunningham and Margaret Urlich as well as world music groups such as Badema, Cumana, Candela and Tigramuna.
Last year he played on the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's 'Australia' and performed with Harry Connick Jnr, Michael Buble and Liza Minnelli as part of the orchestra for Australian Idol. He also played in the orchestra for comedy legend Jerry Lewis, at the Sydney Opera House.

As well as recording with numerous artists, Richard also heads up his own ensembles, the Orghan-um Trio the Richard Maegraith Band.
His latest collaborative project Amphibious, with cellist Olliver Miller, Aaron Flower and Jamie Cameron, just released their first recording, 'First Breath'. |
